Even if you didn't pack canned food, bring a can opener. You never know when you might need one.

Stoves

Although you could cook on an open fire, stoves have some advantages. They are more reliable in bad weather, do not require the amount of experience that a live fire does, and they are less likely to be noticed at a distance, in times when going undetected is crucial. They do, however, cost money, require fuel, weigh you down and take up valuable Bug-Out-Bag space.
